Can a Mobile Notary Come to Your House?
Everything You Need to Know

By Amanda Dolph, Dolph Notary Services
Have you ever found yourself asking, "Can a notary come to me?" The answer is absolutely!
One of the biggest misconceptions about notarization is that you have to go to a bank, shipping store, or law office to have documents notarized. While those are certainly options, they're not your only option.
As a fully mobile notary serving Central Indiana, I bring the notary to you. Whether you're at home, your office, a hospital, an assisted living community, or even your favorite coffee shop, I can often meet you where it's most convenient.
If you've never used a mobile notary before, here's everything you need to know.
What Is a Mobile Notary?
A mobile notary is a commissioned Notary Public who travels to clients rather than working from a fixed office location.
The notarization itself is exactly the same as it would be anywhere else. The difference is convenience.
Instead of rearranging your day to find a notary, you choose a location that works best for you.
For many people, this makes the process significantly less stressful—especially when mobility, health concerns, work schedules, or family obligations make traveling difficult.
Where Can a Mobile Notary Meet You?
One of the best parts about using a mobile notary is flexibility.
I regularly meet clients at locations such as:
- Private homes
- Offices and businesses
- Hospitals
- Rehabilitation centers
- Nursing homes
- Assisted living communities
- Coffee shops
- Libraries
- Title companies
- Attorney offices
- Senior living communities
As long as the location is safe, appropriate, and allows enough privacy to complete the notarization, there's a good chance we can meet there.
What Types of Documents Can Be Notarized?
People are often surprised by just how many different documents require notarization.
Some of the most common include:
- Powers of Attorney
- Healthcare Directives
- Living Wills
- Trust documents
- Affidavits
- Vehicle title paperwork
- Real estate documents
- Mortgage and refinance packages
- Adoption paperwork
- School forms
- Permission to Travel forms
- Business documents
- Financial forms
If you're unsure whether your document needs to be notarized, feel free to ask before scheduling your appointment.
What You'll Need Before Your Appointment
A little preparation helps your appointment go smoothly.
Bring a Valid Government-Issued Photo ID
Indiana law requires notaries to verify the identity of every signer.
Acceptable forms of identification generally include:
- Driver's license
- State-issued ID
- Passport
- Military ID
Your ID should be current or otherwise acceptable under Indiana law.
Wait to Sign the Document
Unless you've been specifically instructed otherwise, don't sign documents that require notarization before your appointment.
Many notarizations require the notary to witness your signature.
Make Sure the Document Is Complete
Blank spaces can sometimes delay or even prevent a notarization.
Before your appointment, review your document to ensure it's complete. If you have legal questions about what belongs in those blanks, you'll need to consult the person or organization requesting the document or an attorney. As a notary, I can't provide legal advice or tell you how to complete your paperwork.
Have All Required Signers Present
Everyone whose signature needs to be notarized must be present during the appointment.
If multiple people need to sign, we'll coordinate a time when everyone can be there together.
What About Witnesses?
Some documents require one or two witnesses in addition to notarization.
If your paperwork requires witnesses, it's important to know this before your appointment. Unless we've made arrangements in advance, you'll typically need to provide your own witnesses.
If you're unsure whether witnesses are required, check with the attorney, title company, or organization that prepared the documents before we meet.
How Much Does a Mobile Notary Cost?
In Indiana, notaries may charge the state-authorized notarization fee along with a separate travel or convenience fee for mobile service.
The total cost depends on several factors, including:
- Your location
- Travel distance
- Number of notarizations
- Printing needs
- Scan-back or document delivery requests, if applicable
I'll always provide a quote before confirming your appointment, so you'll know exactly what to expect.
